Laminate Floor Installation in Chicago
Hard-wearing laminate at a budget-friendly price, with underlayment, transitions and trim handled in the same visit.
When laminate is the sensible choice.
Laminate gets dismissed more than it deserves. Modern high-AC-rated laminate resists scratching better than most hardwood finishes, which makes it a sound choice for households with large dogs, for rental units, and for anywhere the budget has to stretch across several rooms at once.
The honest limitation is water. Laminate has a fibreboard core, so standing water at the seams will swell it and there is no repairing that. In a kitchen, a basement or a bathroom, we will steer you to luxury vinyl plank instead — it costs a little more and it will not fail on you.
What the job includes
- High AC-rated click-lock laminate
- Quality underlayment, not attached foam
- Vapour barrier over concrete
- Subfloor flatness check
- Removal of existing flooring
- Expansion gaps at every wall
- Transitions and thresholds
- Trim and shoe moulding
Underlayment is not the place to save money.
Laminate floats, so everything you feel and hear underfoot comes from the underlayment. The cheap foam that ships attached to budget planks is why some laminate floors sound hollow and plasticky when you walk on them.
A proper underlayment quiets the floor, adds a little softness underfoot, and provides the vapour barrier a concrete slab requires. It is a small line item that changes how the finished floor feels every single day.
Common questions.
Call (224) 536-0627 for anything not covered here.
Is laminate cheaper than luxury vinyl plank?
Usually slightly, though the gap has narrowed. For kitchens, basements and bathrooms we generally recommend LVP anyway, because laminate's fibreboard core swells if it gets wet.
Can laminate be refinished?
No. Laminate has a printed wear layer, so damaged planks are replaced rather than sanded. Keeping a few spare planks from your original order makes that far easier later.
Does laminate work with underfloor heating?
Many laminates do, within a maximum surface temperature set by the manufacturer. Check the specification for your product, and we will confirm before installing.
How long does a laminate install take?
Most rooms go down in a single day. Larger whole-floor jobs run one to two days including removal of the old flooring, transitions and trim.

Connor W. · Full flooring installation · July 2026I had water damage and some serious squeaky floors. Instead of trying to patch things up for a quick buck, they told me straight up that a proper fix meant full replacement, not a band-aid repair. They gave me a fair, competitive quote and did a full installation throughout — done professionally, no more squeaks.
Mary V. · Sanding & refinishing · July 2026I am so happy with how my floors turned out. FloorCraft was professional, efficient and extremely fast. I will definitely be hiring them again for more projects.
